About this deal

When I think about this book, I keep having to remind myself that not every kid is a 10-year-old boy who loves aliens and farting. At first glance I assumed "Around the World" was simply a graphic-novel retelling of Jules Verne's "Around the World in 80 Days," but as it turns out it's actually about three real-life figures who, in the wake of Verne's popular novel, decided to embark around the world on journeys of their own. A list of sources, most of them primary accounts by the travelers themselves, appears at the end of the book.

Did you know that the underground railways in Moscow and St Petersburg are decorated with mosaics, paintings and even chandeliers? Matt Phelan's beautiful, simplistic artwork takes us on the journey with these adventurous souls and puts us right there beside them. Phileas Fogg bet his entire fortune that he could cross the Nineteenth Century Earth - with no plans, no special arrangements, and no air travel - in exactly eighty days. Produced in Germany and starring Conrad Veidt as Phileas Fogg, the film's original German title was Die Reise um die Erde in 80 Tagen.Despite visitations from his dead wife and rough weather to liven up the voyage, his journey is comparatively dull. Fogg has missed the train and arrives in London apparently five minutes late, certain he has lost the wager. Passepartout still manages to catch the steamer to Yokohama but cannot inform Fogg that the steamer is leaving the evening before its scheduled departure date. In 1903, James Willis Sayre, an American theatre critic and arts promoter, set a world record for circling the earth using public transport: 54 days, 9 hours and 42 minutes. In 1928, 15-year-old Danish Boy Scout Palle Huld travelled around the world by train and ship in the opposite direction to the one in the book.

Experience Guides For travelers that want to design a trip that feels unique, these guides uncover exciting new ways to explore iconic destinations. Thomas Stevens never gave up, though, continuing to pedal his way around the world until his determination paid off and the bicycle became viewed as a legitimate mode of travel. Starting in the late nineteenth century, readers around the world were struck by the contemplative beauty of his haiku, and Ezra Pound and the European Imagists were strongly influenced by poems such as his famous haiku on a frog in a pond: “an ancient pond / a frog jumps in – / the splash of water. His travelogues blend poetry and keen social observation, meditative solitude and deep human solidarity.

helping the reader understand the characters' inner lives, their motivations and ambitions and frustrations. With eye-catching graphics, current topics, and clear texts, the book is for anyone who is curious about the state of our planet and how we live today. The following day Fogg apologises to Aouda for bringing her with him since he now has to live in poverty and cannot support her.

From there they catch a train to New York City, where they arrive 45 minutes after departure of the ship to England. He completed the trip in 78 days, 14 hours and 40 minutes, after departing from Paris on 2 July 2017. He left us an incomparable map of a distinctly un-utopian Brazil in the melancholy comedy of his deceased yet immortal hero’s journey around life. After reading and enjoying Matt Phelan's "The Storm in the Barn," I was curious to see what else he had written. I actually really like Phelan's art style in this book, which is sketchy and wispy but in a way that looks pleasing to the eye. They follow the procession to the site, where Passepartout takes the place of her deceased husband on the funeral pyre. I do notice Phelan has a tendency to not open characters' mouths when they speak, however, which makes for some awkward-looking panels at times and confusion as to who exactly is saying what at other times.
