About this deal

What is fun about the collection is seeing the character of Jason Todd get a re-written to after the DC line reboot. The latter is hard to prove, because I no longer have my scripts and my memory is fuzzy – I just know that certain explanatory captions were dropped and several sequences that were cross-cut got reassembled in a more linear, boring fashion.

Batman was reasonably violent and Batman even made mistakes--and I'm not talking I-created-this-villain-because-of-my-mask stupid psychological shit. Robin learns of the villain’s connection to his father and goes out seeking revenge while Batman plays to the boy’s better angels and succeeds. I've heard it said that one of the reasons Jason as Robin was a base breaker was because Dick never accepted Jason having the mantle.

Now, I probably quit about fifteen seconds before I would have been fired…but I beat ‘em to the punch. Frankly that Clayface story which I went out of my way to seek out after reading this is as good or better than the best tale in Second Chances.

Job Number G-3220 Genre superhero Characters Batman [Bruce Wayne]; Robin [Jason Todd]; Alfred Pennyworth; Kay Doran (reporter); Yoshio Tahara; Dr. This story took a look at a crime in which the victim was someone Batman knew and how his emotions blinded him. But when a bullet fired from the Joker’s gun nearly clips Robin’s wings for good, their partnership is severed, and Batman resumes his war on crime alone. In the mid-1970s, Starlin contributed a cache of stories to the independently published science-fiction anthology Star Reach.I'm guessing it's the Jason Todd from 1983-86 that got on reader's nerves and sent the lad into an early grave.

Also included are a few other issues where he was, not necessarily the star, but still a strong part of the action. When Batman goes into action on his own and meets a young hoodlum named Jason Todd, he's determined to guide Jason away from a life of crime.Instead of being a carbon copy of Grayson’s lighthearted sidekick, Todd is much more prone to violence and doesn’t respect Batman if he feels his mentor is wrong on an issue. That’s kind of the problem with this collection as it is more interesting to see what went wrong with the Jason Todd character and seeing the awkward transition from the Bronze Age into the modern one than the quality of the stories themselves.
