About this deal

Rage Against the Heavens: The Seraphim try to invoke this by killing Sussudio in front of Scud, expecting that killing the only thing he really cares about would drive him into an omnicidal depression. Jeff – Scud's very first assignment, a piecemeal monster with a plug for a head, mousetraps for hands, a squid strapped to her chest, and a mouth on each knee. All of her lines of dialogue are ripped from pop culture sources. She has demonstrated the ability to assimilate animal parts and mechanical devices for use as weapons. If she dies, Scud will self-destruct. Later in the series, it is revealed that Jeff is the last of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, since Scud accidentally killed off the other three before they could hatch in the first issue of the series. Put simply, the words "batshit insane" are not batshit insane enough to describe Scud: The Disposable Assassin. I always thought I was missing out by not following these comics in their original run, but it's nice to have them all in one volume. I was familiar with the basic premise - a robot assassin programmed to self-destruct when he kills his target instead decides to keep his first victim alive to prolong his own existence - but I had no idea that the world Scud inhabits was so incredibly weird that a computerized killbot would be the everyman character.

"Scud: The Disposable Assassin". The Electric Playground. Archived from the original on March 5, 2001. The quote above says it all without giving away spoilers for Scud: The Disposable Assassin but still teases light of the damp, heavy curtain of metaphor that this masterpiece represents.Schrab started making this book as a response to personal heartbreak. I bought the book around the same time I had a personal heartbreak and now the book is colored by that knowledge. Reading it now, I see a more successful and happier Rob and a more successful and happier me, and that definitely makes me tear up just thinking about it. The Sega Saturn video game has a computer called AM-2, named for the developers of Virtua Fighter and Virtua Cop, among other Sega arcade titles. Scud's handguns are also redesigned to resemble the "Stunner" light gun design Sega sold for the Saturn and used for its arcade cabinets. SCUD is, as the title says, a disposable assassin. You buy him from a vending machine, tell him who to kill, and after the job he self-destructs. This model becomes self-aware on his first mission, and opts to keep his victim alive so that he, too, may continue living. What could have easily turned into a sitcom-level trope becomes a key plot point as the story turns from a paint-by-numbers comic plot into epic odyssey. There are too many twists and turns to make sense of without experiencing it directly. Seeing the book again, I felt a wave some kind of memory hit, bought the book, and let it sit on my shelf to read later for years.

A Fate Worse Than Death: The werewolf in issue 11 explodes in the vacuum of space, then his natural Healing Factor reassembles himself, then he explodes again, and reassembles himself again, and so on until the end of time. In a closing interview, conducted by Doug TenNapel at the end of Issue #24, Rob stated that he would like to see La Cosa Nostroid concluded, but that it would be up to Dan Harmon, who helmed the series. Scud takes Sussudio to task over this when he finds out that cyborg mafioso Tony Tasty used to date her, prompting her to respond "He's half robot, we had half a relationship." a b c "Scud: Not Even a Patriot Can Stop this Scud". Electronic Gaming Monthly. No.90. Ziff Davis. January 1997. pp.168–9. Scud - The robotic protagonist. One of a series of mass-produced assassins, Scud will self-destruct if his mission is completed.chcete vidět roboty, zombie dinosaury, padouchy co mají jako hlavu psa (komplet psa) nebo býka s motorovými pilami místo rohů

Oswald - A previous Scud model who had his self-destruct module removed. Oswald has been known to help out Scud from time-to-time. He is modelled after a rabbit, and can use his ears as weapons. Schrab said Oswald was a nod to Jaxxon, the Green Bunny character in the Star Wars Comics of the eighties. In issue 21, he dies trying to break into Voodoo Ben's lair. In issue 3 of the spinoff series, Tales from the Vending Machine, One-shot character, Heartless 666 has tentacles where his mouth should be. Hmmm...

Collected Editions

The issue begins in an office at Marvin's Manikans, where lowly employee Hershel Roundhead is having a meeting with his boss, Mr. Spidergod, regarding a "monster" that's been eating the employees. Mr. Spidergod tells Hershel that if he doesn't get someone to "take care of it", he would send Hershel down to deal with it. We then find Hershel outside on the street, standing in front of a vending machine simply labeled SCUD. He inserts three "Franks", presses a button and out steps Scud, the Disposable Assassin. Hershel gives Scud a disk containing all of the information he will need to complete "the job" on it, and Scud heads off to the Marvin's Manikans building to take out his target. I Cannot Self-Terminate: The Scud Sol. Not because it's not programmed to; because its armor is too durable for even its own weapons to pierce.

Look, Scud is, whatever else I can say about it, absolutely unclassifiable. Part sci-fi picaresque journey, part satire of America, part gonzo comedy, part relationship allegory, part action film, part supernatural thriller, part Mob drama...the list goes on. And no, it doesn't all fit together, and the ending is a bit jarring and doesn't quite fit the rest of the series, and the tonal shifts towards the end are odd. All of that is true. There is a manic energy not often seen in comics--it's endless creative, riffing and experimental. It tells you to foget Marvel and DC's house styles. It's rough around the edges--but that's part if its charm. It feels like a Catholic school kids paracosm.

Scud isn't your typical hero. In fact, he's pretty much a anti-hero. He looks very impressive in the vending machine, but once he gets out, he slumps over with a look on his face (if you can call it that) that he would rather be doing something else. Tasked to kill a monster, whom he decides to call her (yes, her) Jeff, he finds out through complete accident that once he finishes her off, he will go boom. Thinking "F that, I got better things to do", Scud dismembers this beast and decides to go freelance so he can keep paying her life support bill (almost sounds like a marriage to me). Throughout his entire adventure, he makes some friends, makes some enemies (probably makes more enemies than friends), nearly loses one of his appendages to a werewolf astronaut, does battle with Benjamin Franklin on a almost regular basis, and that's on his good days. At the end, there are a few unanswered questions, but for the most part, the story ends on a good and hilarious note. In the Hey Arnold! episode "Dangerous Lumber", Helga refers to Arnold as "Scud" and later calls him "Arnold the assassin". In diesem 800seitigen Megasammelband sind sämtliche 24 veröffentlichten Folgen von Scud versammelt und ich kann wahren Comicfans nur raten: KAUFEN! Many people have commented on some of the amateurish panels in the book's beginning, but I found myself cherishing them. Rob's tenacity and willingness to just go for something as daunting as making a comic is not only inspiring to me, but makes me feel capable, like I can try at the thing I have dreamed of for years and push forward to be brave enough to make something new. I admire him so much for that. Double Standard Rape: Female on Male: Sussudio gets no flak for tying Scud to a bed and raping him (inasmuch as a robot without genitals can be raped). Then again, a lot of crimes are committed in this world without consequences.
